Should I Wear SPF On My Hands?

You may spend your time making sure you are using the perfect products to keep your skin looking youthful and radiant, which probably include always wearing SPF on your face. But did you know that your hands will age a lot quicker than anywhere else on your face and body?

If you’re using SPF on your face but forgetting about your hands, then your hands are always exposed to the sun and its UV rays which can lead to wrinkles, and sun damage.

Regardless of the weather or the time of year, you should always use an SPF as UV damage can occur even on a cold and foggy day, not only causing ageing but potentially leading to an increased risk of skin cancer.

Why Are Your Hands Ageing?

There are many reasons why your hands are ageing, and though it is a natural process, there are ways to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fragile skin.

Ageing Hands

Spending too much time outside in the sun or excessive use of sunbeds will inevitably exacerbate the ageing process, as sun damage will leave the skin on your hands looking older with wrinkles and sunspots.

As you age, your skin can naturally become dryer and the skin on your hands may start to thin and become translucent, affecting their overall appearance.

The skin on your hands is fragile and needs to be looked after, so invest in your them by using a good and effective hand cream that encompasses quality ingredients to both hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

Also, make sure to keep hydrated and drink lots of water as you can fix a lot of skin issues from the inside out. Water plumps up your cells and keeps you hydrated and your skin looking firmer and plumper. Therefore reducing the appearance of wrinkles and aiding in dry skin.

3. Reapply, Reapply, Reapply

To ensure your sunscreen provides the maximum levels of protection for your skin, it needs to be reapplied regularly. On average, you should reapply every 2-3 hours, keep a bottle in your bag or your car and top up your protection regularly.

To make sure you’re getting the full protection from your sunscreen you should follow the two finger rule to cover your skin and limit any UV ray exposure. The two-finger rule is an application technique that includes pouring sunscreen down the length of two fingers and applying it to one area of your body. Make sure to use enough to cover the area between your palm and the tips of your fingers.

Also, remember to apply your sunscreen before going outside as it takes 15 minutes for it to properly sink into the skin and provide you with its full protection against the sun's UV rays. You can also stay up to date with best practices by following our news here.
